limitcast blog
What Claude Code's usage limits really cost, measured from real readings rather than guessed.
-
limitcast 0.14: pace your week by the day, and keep what trim must not touch
limitcast 0.14: a keep-list for trim, a daily share of your weekly Claude Code limit that can hold new subagents, and which window runs out first.
-
limitcast 0.16: find the notes Claude Code never loads, and split big memory files
limitcast 0.16 checks the part of your Claude Code memory that is never loaded, and adds /limitcast:memory-audit and /limitcast:memory-split to clean it up.
-
limitcast 0.17: Grok weekly usage percentage, off by default
limitcast 0.17 shows Grok's real weekly usage percentage and forecasts it like Claude and Codex. It is off by default because it uses your Grok login.

Claude Code usage limit reached: how the 5-hour and weekly limits work
Hit your Claude Code usage limit? How the 5-hour session limit and the weekly limit reset, which tokens move the meter (new ones, far more than cached ones), and how to see the runout coming.

Why a long idle pause costs you: Claude Code's prompt cache
Come back to a long Claude Code session after a break and your next message can cost over 60 times more of your usage limit. Why the prompt cache expires, what it costs, and when to /compact first.

Do subagents burn your Claude Code limit faster?
Measured on a real account: a subagent call costs about the same share of the 5-hour limit as a main-thread call. A typical subagent costs about 2% of a window; five in parallel, about 10%.

How many tokens is 1% of your Claude Code limit?
Measured from two days of real Claude Code readings: 1% of the 5-hour limit is about 166k new tokens or 11 million cached ones. New tokens were 2.5% of what I used and about 63% of the limit.
limitcast forecasts when each Claude Code, Codex and Grok limit runs out, and its Pro plan stops runaway subagents before they burn the rest of it.
